Um. (0.00 / 0)
How am I implicated, exactly?

what I meant to say was... (0.00 / 0)

We don't want our oil to stop. As disgusted as we all are now, we all also know oil is a dirty business and has been forever-Upton Sinclair was writing about how evil this stuff was back in 1927 and his book was recently made into the scariest movie ever--There Will be Blood.

We saw all those birds and baby seals all covered in oil the last time. Though I'm sort of young and mostly remember the Simpson's episode about it when Lisa wanted to scrub animals, but only celebrities got to do it, so they scrubbed oil off of rocks.

We've been lusting for this stuff and we haven't been organizing strong enough (I haven't been organizing at all) around putting an end to (or at least some very clear, enforced rules around) this crazy industry. Most of us, and I'm including myself, have turned a blind eye through our oil wars and that boring Al Gore movie. Yes, I said it. That movie was boring.

I think depending on eventually running out of oil or green-washing of the oil industry (British Petrolium is now Beyond Petrolium, right?) are sort of ridiculous ideas that I've been okay with for a long time.

So, that's what I meant by we're all implicated.  What do you think?

I think this. (0.00 / 0)

Civilization is dependent on the extraction of natural resources (even wind power counts in that regard). There's a right way to do it and a wrong way to do it.

I think offshore drilling sucks, and I would oppose any new wells. But wells exist and America uses the oil they produce to be America.

The fault in this is BP's, twice. First, in that they have an egregious track record of ignoring safety problems; second, in that they can't get the damn thing fixed.

Also at fault: the Federal agency responsible for making sure BP doesn't ignore those problems, and its now-resigned head. Bush let the agency be lackadaisical; Obama didn't move fast enough to correc that mistake.
