Let's check out what's happening today in oil spill news after the jump.

Mae Singerman :: Oil Spill Round Up
  • Desperate phone calls from the Gulf Coast are going straight to BP operators who don't even bother recording messages. One worker speaks out.
  • Tea Party activists have been quiet about the oil spill partially because their origins exist in the largest private oil company in the US, Koch Industries. The first Tea Party action was in support of offshore drilling!
  • The BP oil disaster is leading to a rise in the success of shareholder activism around environmental issues. "Investors are seeing that environmental practices affect their bottom line. It's starting to become more commonly accepted"
  • Takin' it to the Streets is a Muslim-led festival where artistic expression, spirituality and urban creativity inspire social change. 20,000 participants will be focusing on greenness with discussions about Islam and the spiritual malaise of the oil spill.
