First of all, I know NOTHING about professional basketball and don't care about Lebron James. But, I do care about my hometown and I know ONE THING about residents of New York. Many are part of a cultish, self-absorbed mass who are personally offended that anyone, especially a famous basketball player, would choose (actually choose!!) to live anywhere else besides NYC. Some people like fresh air, space to move around, a beach where you can see your toes in the water, less crazy prices and fresh tropical fruit. If only that Miami got to be the location that deflated, even just for a few days, the giant ego of the New York masses, I'm satisfied. Beyond the New York cultiness of the Jewcy post, I also disagree with the premise of the post. Duh...OLD JEWS NO LONGER GO TO MIAMI TO LIVE (OR DIE). Old Jews move to Boca Raton, which is a gilded ghetto where some of my favorite family members current reside. Miami-Dade county is a huge sprawling area full of a ton of Latinos, people from the Caribbean, some Jewbans (Cuban Jews!) and some young Jewish families who hold out in Miami Beach. But most of the older generation have died out and the newer retirees pick to live in the much more segregated (race, class and ethnicity) Boca Raton. So, if you're going to really criticize Miami, talk about the real problems- about the immense poverty, the horrible public transportation, local governments in bed with developers and the lack of progressive institutions. Then tell me why Lebron shouldn't go there... |
