Suzanne Reisman is a trusty jspot contributor and a superhero JFSJ grant writer. Not only does she help keep JFSJ afloat, she does cool stuff outside of work, like win awesome writing contests. Suzanne is  a 2010 Blogher Voice of the Year.

Blogher "is the largest community of women who blog: 20+ million unique visitors per month."

Check out Suzanne's piece on her blog, which focuses on an anecdote about her quest to learn about her family's pre-Holocaust history.

Divrei torah: tell me your fantasies

by: Rabbi Jill Jacobs

Mon Aug 18, 2008 at 14:22:30 PM EDT

As you may know, jspot features a d'var torah (Torah commentary) each week.  These pieces focus on the weekly Torah reading from a social justice point of view, and are written by a variety of scholars, activists, rabbis, and others.

As I'm thinking about whom to invite to write for us next year, I'd love your thoughts--whose point of view would you like to see here?  What writers should we invite?

For examples of past divrei torah, click here.

Notes From the National Conference for Media Reform

by: Mik Moore

Fri Jun 06, 2008 at 19:55:25 PM EDT

Just finishing up the first day of the National Conference for Media Reform in Minneapolis, MN.

Highlights thus far:

  • Having lunch with a table of elderly peace activists and hearing a Catholic man tell a woman, frustrated with Christian leaders, to heed the words of Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, "Some are guilty, but all are responsible." She needed to do even more, he argued.
  • Listening to Vic Rosenthal talk about the work Jewish Community Action has done to organize synagogues to support immigrants in Postville, IA suffering after the ICE raids.
  • After speaking on a panel about economic justic, religion and the media, listening to a woman's growing excitement about creating a group blog for the congregations in her small town in Wisconsin to focus on their work with Latino farmworkers.
Up tomorrow: Bill Moyers, the future of the Netroots, and more.
